Oregon native and National Scottish Fiddle Champion Hanneke Cassel brings her exciting celtic influenced world-class trio to the acoustically wonderful Newburyport landmark for an inspiring evening of rousing high energy original music to celebrate the release of her new album, Trip To Walden Pond. Accompanying Hanneke will be her husband/ music partner Grammy winner Mike Block on cello and Keith Murphy on guitar.
The Hanneke Cassel Band features Mike Block a pioneering multi-style cellist, singer, composer, and educator. Hailed by Yo-Yo Ma as the "ideal musician of the 21st-Century", Mike is part of the Grammy-award winning Silk Road Ensemble, a graduate of the Juilliard School, and an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music. Newfoundland-born guitarist Keith Murphy began absorbing his native musical languages - folksongs, ballads and dance music -from an early age. A proficient multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger, he has long applied considerable energy to the rhythmic side of music. For the past several years, Keith has been the music director for the WGBH Celtic Sojourn St Partick's Day concerts held at Sander's Theatre.
We proudly welcome Hanneke back to Newburyport where she first played in her freshman year at Berklee.
This show will be an almost non amplified performance to take advantage of the incredible natural acoustics of the venerable venue. (we need to slightly amp the guitar)
