A bluegrass concert featuring Steep Canyon Rangers with Della Mae opening.

Bluegrass is American roots music, drawing from the Scot-Irish immigrants in Appalachia. It is distinctively acoustic in instrumentation with displays of virtuosity in the treatment of melody and improvisation.

Steep Canyon Rangers are today's rising stars. Sharing time with funnyman-turned-banjo savant Steve Martin on tour and with appearances on the Today Show and Late Show with David Letterman, the Rangers have also earned a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album for their latest effort Nobody Knows You.

SCR are comprised of Woody Platt (guitar and vocals), Graham Sharp (banjo and harmony vocals), Mike Guggino (mandolin and harmony vocals), Charles Humphrey III (bass and harmony vocals) and Nicky Sanders (fiddle and harmony vocals). Self-taught, with the exception of classically trained-Sanders, this progressive bluegrass quintet is on fire!

Opening for SCR, is another hot bluegrass sensation. Della Mae commands a powerful collective chemistry with vocal, instrumental, and songwriting talent to spare. These Boston-based "alt-grassy" women-respectful of American musical tradition-are not restricted by it and meld centuries' worth of musical influences with an emotionally tough, undeniably modern songwriting sensibility.

Della Mae's members hail from all over the United States and bring an eclectic musical background to the mix. There's founder and fiddler Kimber Ludiker, singer Celia Woodsmith who comes from a blues/rock background, guitarist Courtney Hartman who studied at Berklee College of Music, bassist Shelby Means who played with various bands in Nashville, and mandolin player Jenni Lyn Gardner who was schooled in traditional bluegrass.
